Blogmas Day 5: The Christmas Cracker Book Tag!

Hi, and thanks for stopping by.

Today's Blogmas post is The Christmas Cracker Book tag!! Now I'm pretty sure this tag was created by Lucy - if I'm mistaken, please do correct me. Anyway, let's just jump straight into this!!

1. Pick a book with a wintry cover

This question made me realise I own nearly NO wintry-covered books - which is weird, because I own SO many summery ones! I wish there more seasonal YA books written that weren't just set in summer.

2. pick a book you’d buy as a present

This year, I'd probably buy everyone a copy of Emery Lord's The Names They Gave Us, because I absolutely adored it and want to share it with every possible human being. But in terms of general Christmas gifting, I think something in hardback is always particularly special - maybe a Penguin clothbound classic.

3. pick a festive-themed book

For this, I'm going to go for Let It Snow, a novel made up of three stories by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle. I really enjoyed these stories because not only are they really festive and cosy reads for the Christmas season, but they're also so hilariously funny, heartwarming and entertaining. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face!!

4. pick a book you can curl up with in front of the fireplace

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (or any of the six other books, really). These are the cosiest, most comforting books on this planet. The more I think about it, the more sense it would make to do my HP reread every year in the winter months, as so little of the stories are set in hot months, but I just have so much more spare time in the summer.

5. pick a book you want to read over the festive period

Well, I two answers here. I recently found Holly Smale's All Wrapped Up for a bargain of £2.99 in T.K. Maxx, so I'm definitely saving that for December. I also bought the GORGEOUS Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell, so I can't wait to read that, too - I haven't read anywhere near enough Rainbow Rowell this year (only Carry On, in fact) and I really do miss her writing.

6. pick a book that’s so good it gives you chills

The one book scene that gives me the biggest chills has to be the final battle at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. SPOILER ALERT...although it has been out for years, so yknow, catch up already... when Voldemort finally dies, there's this brief moment of silence and then suddenly everybody is screaming and hugging and rushing towards Harry and the joy and relief is so palpable, it makes me shiver and cry every single time I read it. Especially when you've been with these characters for six books already, and seen all of the sacrifices they've made and losses they've survived through. It's just brilliant.

7. pick a book going on your Christmas wishlist

I'll probably be mentioning these constantly throughout December, but I'm lusting after the Harry Potter illustrated editions. I did hint about them to my wonderful mum, so hopefully she'll tell Father Christmas alllllll about it...

So that's it! I really hope you enjoyed this tag, it was a lot of fun to do! Please do it yourself, I tag you all!! Or, if you'd rather, leave a comment down below, telling me your answer to one or two of these questions!! I'd really love to hear from you.

Till next time

Katie

  1. I love your colorful bookshelves. I have Almost Midnight on my TBR list, so I hope we both like that one.
